We're hiring a biostatistician / research data scientist

An opportunity

The IDEAS group at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is looking for a new member to join our group of researchers, modellers, and epidemiologists as a biostatistician II / research data scientist. We work in areas across infectious diseases from antimicrobial resistance to vector-borne diseases to pre-clinical product development. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in R, Python, Julia, and/or other equivalent programming languages. Prior experience using SQL to query electronic health record data is helpful (e.g., Epic), but not essential. If you have a solid programming background and are interested in learning SQL, we'll make sure you get the training you need. We generally work in the office 3 to 4 days per week (in Winston-Salem, NC) and enjoy collaborating in person, but we're open to hybrid or remote arrangements for the right candidate.

The official position title is "biostatistician II". It is extramurally funded by two long-standing programs (one of which we have had for 20 years and the other for over 10 years). We feel good about continuing to get funding in these areas, but it is a soft-money position. You'll get all the benefits of being a full time employee of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the academic core of Advocate Health, the third largest non-profit health system in the United States. The salary range is between $73k to 110k USD per year and there are lots of opportunity for professional development (co-authorship on papers, conferences, training, an engaging intellectural community, etc). $The primary responsibilities will be around a lot of data munging/cleaning from a variety of sources for reporting including electronic health data. There is also the opportunity to work as an internal consulting statistician for investigators within the section on infectious diseases, and there are opportunities to engage in projects across the ID section.

The official workday posting isn't up, but for informal inquiries or questions about the role or the group, please email me at michael.dewitt@wfusm.edu
